nothing fancy non-edited thoughts (seriously, lack of grammar) from yours truly. where do i start?
education + teaching career: my first bachelors was spent studying viola performance. i learned many cool things about music history and music thoery, got to perform internationally with my university, taught beginner strings (this is where my teaching career began), and eventually won a spot playing professionally. plan B was a secondary bachelors of science in mathematics. dr. rebaza - shout out to your applied math class, truly one of my favorite. this degree was soooo cerebrally pleasing that i studied pure math in grad school. i was afforded the opportunity to start teaching small math labs that eventually led to full classes and then my first full-time big girl job (the symphony was part time)!!! i was hired as faculty at my alma matter to teach mathematics :) this was a great gig, but life had different plans for me.
movement: i grew up between two brothers. i was a tomboy, competitive to do anything and everything that my brothers could do. we were always climbing trees, racing bikes uphill, running through the neighborhood streets. i took to mowing the grass to prove i was just as good as them. my oldest memory of choosing to be active is running - i loved sprinting as a pre-teen and come late teen years, running became part of the toxic culture to be thin. suffice it to say, running is no longer an activity i enjoy. good news though! college and friends brought me weightlifting, rock climbing, and yoga. all modalities that have fluctuated in my movement habits, but i still find my way back to them.
the yoga: i moved to chicago early pandemy times. The Lab Yoga was offering its first teacher training and i felt like i belonged in every practice i had there. of course i would take this opportunity to lean into my practice and learn more! a long, but fruitful, 200 hours later, teaching felt like home. as the world slowly opened, i taught and teach in various chicago studios: the lab, yogasix, absoyogalutely, movement climbing yoga and fitness, tiny space to breathe, yodega, the apartment, the yoga seed. my classes were initially athletic, but have had a more gentle and restful approach both after my restorative training and becoming a mom.
okay, baby is waking up and he's hungry. gtg but maybe there will be more on these topics later.
tschuss!
